My CIPS Presentations – June 2016

I am humbled and honoured to be asked to speak at several CIPS (Canadian Information Processing Society) luncheons in Saskatchewan in June.

CIPS Saskatchewan is a provincial association with the purpose of promoting the Information Systems Professional of Canada (I.S.P.) Certification, a professional designation in the information systems and information technology industry in Saskatchewan.

I will be presenting a session titled ‘If SharePoint had Warning Labels‘. It’s a tongue-in-cheek title but will cover some important lessons I’ve learned from my past SharePoint experiences. It was a lot of fun to put together as anyone who’s worked with SharePoint can likely appreciate.

Synopsis

SharePoint is a powerful product and can be many things to its many customers – allowing each to customize it for their own unique business needs.  Over the past 9 years I’ve worked with SharePoint, I’ve learned some valuable  lessons and insights into key areas of the product that should come with warning labels to handle with care.

Some choices made in SharePoint can have detrimental side effects and end up costing organizations time, rework, and money to resolve.  In this talk, I’ll share a few common lessons I’ve learned, and the audience will benefit by being able to recognize some of these before they become a problem in their own environment.

The attendees will walk away from this session with not only the warnings, but my remediation for each of them.

[UPDATE – June 9, 2016] The presentation was a success and in fact with 80 attendees was the most well-attended CIPS Regina event of the year! Clearly lots of people want to learn about SharePoint!

[UPDATE – June 28, 2016] A quick road trip to Saskatoon allowed me to give this same presentation to the CIPS group there. I had a lot of fun presenting and we had some great audience questions and discussion afterwards.
